Negro Leagues awards link today’s heroes to the past - Kansas City Star.
A sense of humility and reverence dominated the evening at the ninth annual Negro Leagues Legacy Awards. Baseball’s best players, managers and executives came to express their respect for the players who toiled for so many years under the injustice of segregation. It seemed clear that the players of today more clearly understand the connection they share with the old Negro Leagues stars. Roy Firestone, author and award-winning interviewer, hosted the awards show. Firestone upstaged everyone on the program with his dead-on singing impressions.
