Cleveland Buckeyes of 1945

Catcher Quincey Trouppe returned from the Mexican League to take the helm of the Cleveland Buckeyes and, under his direction, they copped both halves of the split season with a composite .768 winning percentage to win the Negro American League pennant. To crown the season, they swept the Homestead Grays in the ensuing World Series. Trouppe's charges were led by future major league star Sam Jethroe, and supported by thirdbaseman Parnell Woods and Cuban shortstop sensation Avelino Canizares. On the mound the Jefferson brothers, Willie and George, both had outstanding seasons for the champion Buckeyes.
